"I am delighted about the positive contribution that Business in the Community is making to the corporate social responsibility debate by providing the support businesses need to develop their practices. In doing so, Business in the Community clearly demonstrates that voluntary action by business is the most sustainable way in which companies can build trust with their key stakeholders."
Digby Jones, Director General, Confederation of British Industry

about

the Corporate Impact Reporting website
Responsible companies are trying harder than ever to determine what they should be measuring and reporting so that they can improve and communicate their impact on society. And yet, research has shown that the quality of information provided by companies is rated poorly by the City.
The Corporate Impact Reporting website, launched in December 2001, is a joint project of Business in the Community (BITC) and the Business Impact Review Group, comprising twenty companies who are working together to develop a common approach to social and environmental reporting.
| "The Corporate Impact Reporting website is an important new channel for companies to report on their corporate social responsibility. It highlights the most relevant information, and makes it easily accessible to a broad range of stakeholders. Everybody who thinks it is essential for companies to measure and report their overall impact on society should see the programme as a big step forward."
Phil Hodkinson Chair, Business Impact Review Group CEO, Long Term Savings and Insurance, HBOS |

reporting and benchmarking
The Corporate Impact Reporting website provides companies with a framework to measure and report on their responsible business practices. A second, complementary initiative of Business in the Community - the Corporate Responsibility Index - provides alongside this, a systematic process to compare companies' management processes and performance with those of other organisations in their sector. The Index measures how corporate responsibility strategy is developed and integrated within core business practices, ultimately resulting in improved performance and impact in areas that are important for business.
Together, Corporate Impact Reporting and the Corporate Responsibility Index provide an integrated process to help companies improve and communicate their performance.
