project background

the Business Impact Review Group

Twenty UK-based companies are working together to develop a common approach to social and environmental reporting. They are the founding members of the Business Impact Review Group, a group of organisations making a substantial commitment to measuring and reporting their corporate social responsibility performance. You will find the evidence of participating companies' commitment through the data reported in this website.

Some have considerable experience in this area of activity. Some are just beginning the journey. All have made a commitment which puts them ahead of the majority of their peers: those companies who currently neither measure nor report. They place themselves in a high-profile position, in working at the leading edge of accountability and transparency.

The companies who make up the Business Impact Review Group are a diverse group, from a variety of sectors. You will find a summary of those contributing their data in the Participants section.

developing the impact indicators

The Business Impact Review Group was formed following publication of Business in the Community's Winning with Integrity report in November 1999. The report was the result of a two-year business-led taskforce. It summarises the best business case arguments for corporate social responsibility, identifies quality of management for the various areas of activity, and recommends a set of core indicators by which a company's impact on society can be measured. The report forms part of another major CSR website linked to Business in the Community.

The indicators identified in Winning with Integrity are the basis of the company reports you will find in the Reports section on this site. They are intended to:

provide management information of value to businesses
be of interest to external stakeholders
highlight meaningful performance information and give a real insight into the effectiveness of efforts to manage corporate social responsibility performance.
